Jonathan is 20 years old. He is extremely low functioning, and has few life skills. He doesn't know how to apply for a job, use a laundry machine, go grocery shopping, or use public transportation, many skills most adults take for granted. He was raised in an abusive and drug addicted home. His father died in an alcohol-related car accident when Jonathan was young. Jonathan has severe grief and abandonment issues, suffers from varying degrees of depression, and has no self-esteem.

He's been homeless since he was 18 years old, however, when asked how long he slept on the streets, Jonathan responds, "I never spent the night on the streets. Every night I'd find a house that was empty and I'd break in and sleep there. I never stole anything, just slept." At the age of 19, Jonathan was found sleeping in one of those homes, and was arrested and convicted of trespassing. After 6 months in jail, he was released on probation.

He's been at HomeBase Youth Services for just over three months, has completed a ten-week outpatient drug treatment program, and has just gotten a job. He suffers from depression, chemical dependency withdrawal symptoms, fetal alcohol syndrome, developmental disabilities and adjustment disorder.
