"Chase"
They fed me healthy food, gave me a shower, clean clothes
and hygiene products. Then they talked to me and helped me get
counseling. After that, they arranged transportation and helped me get
an ID so that I could apply for a job. Erin and the people at the
Outreach Center have helped me change my life!
I even got accepted into the Transitional Living Program and learned
how to eat right, keep my room clean, follow a curfew, be on time and be
more responsible. The self-esteem groups also helped and I really liked
the physical fitness program. But I blew it, I started breaking the rules
and didn't turn in my paychecks*. After they gave me a couple of chances,
I got referred back to the Outreach Center where they continued to give
me support and direction, but I knew it was up to me.
When I had to go back to living in a shelter again, I finally learned
my lesson. I went back to get counseling through the Outreach Center and
tried to get my act together. Erin could see that I was serious. She
helped me and even called my mom and step-dad about my progress. After
that, my mom invited me to spend a night. I had a long talk with my folks
and we agreed on some rules that I know I will follow now and they let me
move back in. I have a new lease on life and I'm feeling real happy!
I don't even want to think about where I'd be without HomeBase Youth
Services.
* - Youth in the Transitional Living Program are expected to put 80% of their earnings into a savings account (HomeBase provides all basic living needs). The savings are used for housing and utility deposits when youth graduate from the program.
